Volvo Leads the Eco-Friendly Pack

As the need for greater environmental consciousness becomes more and more evident, automakers are doing their best to create more fuel-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles. As it turns out, Volvo is going above and beyond. With a CO2 reduction rate higher than that of its top ten competitors, the Swedish automaker is leading the pack.
How do we know this for sure? Lovering Volvo in Meredith admits, measuring a company's green effort can be rather difficult considering it is more of a mindset rather than a tangible product. However, the European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) has come up with a pretty successful method. For the past six years, T&E has determined who is the most eco-friendly by directly measuring the amount of carbon-dioxide emissions an automaker is able to reduce. Sitting three- to seven-percent above the rest, Volvo clearly won out.
The automaker's green success is due in part to an initiative called "DRIVe towards zero" which has pumped out highly-popular vehicles with fuel-efficient diesel engines. Additionally, the initiative has produced electrified models with various degrees of hybridization as well as alternative fuel options.
Though Volvo has hit the top, it certainly has no intention to stop there. By the year 2020, the automaker hopes to reduce CO2 output to 95 grams per kilometer across all vehicles. While this goal may seem daring, it is entirely feasible. Success will depend largely on such variables as legislative developments, energy availability, incentives and consumer demand.
For those who believe in the same environmental goals as Volvo, Lovering Volvo in Meredith invites you to check out current fuel-efficient models such as the Volvo C30.
